NEWBERRY, MI— Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post are investigating a felonious assault in Newberry.
Saturday around 2 a.m. troopers responded to a report that a woman had been stabbed several times. The 36-year-old Newberry resident was seriously injured. She remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Investigation revealed the 24-year-old suspect was the victim’s boyfriend from Florida. He fled the residence on foot before police arrived. Michigan State Police K-9 and Emergency Support teams were called to assist in the search for the suspect. He was later found hiding in a nearby residence.
The suspect is lodged in the Luce County Jail for assault with intent to do great bodily harm and resisting and obstructing.
