Arrests made in series of UP storage unit thefts

K.I. SAWYER, MI— Two people have been arrested in connection with thefts from storage units in at least three Upper Peninsula counties.

WZMQ-TV reports a traffic stop on Saturday led to their arrest. Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Forsyth Township Police Department executed a search warrant late Sunday night at a home on Crusader Street in K.I. Sawyer.

Police say the break-ins happened in Gladstone, Escanaba, Sands Township, Ishpeming, Negaunee, Iron Mountain, possibly Negaunee Township, and potentially other places.

One of the suspects told officers where to look for stolen items. Some of the goods were found buried under tarps in the snow and deep in the woods.

The case remains under investigation.
