Man claims to be police officer, threatens to arrest worker at Escanaba business

ESCANABA, MI— An Escanaba man has been arrested for impersonating an officer.

Tuesday around 1:35 p.m., Escanaba Public Safety responded to a business on the 900 block of N. Lincoln Road on a report a suspect was posing as a police officer.

The man, identified as 45-year-old Shawn LeClaire, demanded to use the restroom, and threatened to arrest a worker before leaving.

Public Safety officers located LeClaire a few hours later and arrested him on a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a peace officer.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
