Man jailed for threatening schools, sending child porn through cell phone

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain man is jailed for threatening schools and sending child sexually abusive material.

WLUC-TV reports Adam Murray, 24, was arrested by Iron Mountain Police at his apartment Tuesday morning. The Green Bay Police Department had alerted the IMPD a man was threatening schools in general but hadn’t named a particular school. They obtained a search warrant and arrested Murray around 9 a.m.

Schools in Dickinson and Iron counties went into a soft lockdown out of caution, but returned to normal operations after Murray was arrested.

He was arraigned in Dickinson County District Court Tuesday afternoon. The complaint said Murray sent multiple Snapchats of child sexually abusive material through his phone, and also sent threats via his cell phone that he was going to kill his mother and be a school shooter.

Proceedings were paused for about 15 minutes after the IMPD received information about additional threats Murray allegedly made to another local school.

He’s charged with four felonies relating to making an online school threat and distributing child sexually abusive material. Additional charges are expected.

Murray remains lodged in the Dickinson County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
