Man who wielded hammer in Escanaba Walmart arraigned

ESCANABA, MI— A suspect accused of damaging merchandise at the Escanaba Walmart has been charged.

Officers with the Escanaba Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the store Friday just after 4 p.m. They found a man actively damaging property with a hammer and took him into custody.

The store was evacuated and closed for a period of time.

Paul Storms was arraigned Monday on a charge of malicious destruction of property, $20,000 or more.

A probable cause conference is set for April 27 in Delta County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
