Marquette Police arrest resident for assault with intent to murder

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette man has been arrested for trying to kill another man.

City Police were dispatched Sunday around 9 p.m. to a house on the 1500 block of Norway Avenue on a report of a possible homicide. They discovered the suspect, John Fitzpatrick Dewey-Jones, 51, allegedly strangled the victim into unconsciousness with the intent to kill him.

Dewey-Jones was arrested for assault with intent to commit murder and lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The victim was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of his injuries.

Assault with intent to murder is punishable by up to life in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
