Hancock officers arrest man following police chase

HOUGHTON, MI— A South Carolina man is in the Houghton County Jail, after he allegedly tried to outrun police in the Copper Country.

The Houghton Police Department says the pursuit started around 8 p.m. Tuesday in Houghton. The suspect vehicle changed directions several times, then entered the City of Hancock. Police there were able to take the driver into custody.

The 45-year-old man from Waterloo, South Carolina was lodged in the Houghton County Jail, pending arraignment.

The Houghton County Sheriff's Office, Hancock Police Department, and Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services assisted in the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
