Three Georgia men arraigned on check fraud charges in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— Three Atlanta, Georgia men have been arrested on check fraud charges in Marquette County.

On May 22nd, Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post received information about someone in a vehicle allegedly stealing mail from a local business. Troopers checked several parking lots in the Marquette area and found the suspect vehicle at a local hotel.

Three suspects were identified, and a search warrant was executed. Troopers found a number of stolen checks from multiple states, along with various other components used in check fraud.

The suspects were arrested and lodged in the Marquette County Jail. They are:

  • Traveon Reese, 28
  • Demarcos Miller, 20
  • Demetric Steele, 22

All three were arraigned in 96th District Court on four counts of forgery, four counts of using a computer to commit a crime, counterfeiting-possession of tools, and receiving and concealing stolen property-less than $20,000.

Troopers were assisted by the Chocolay Township Police Department and Marquette City Police Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
