Athelstane man arrested after barricading himself in a house, firing a gun

ATHELSTANE, WI— A Marinette County man is jailed, after he armed and barricaded himself inside his house when police tried to serve warrants on him.

Wednesday around noon deputies were in Athelstane trying to locate the man. They found the 53-year-old outside of a residence but the man ran inside and put up a barricade.

The suspect then took a gun and fired a shot in the house. No one was injured.

Deputies set up a perimeter and called the Marinette County Response Team and a BEARCAT armored vehicle to assist. After speaking with the suspect several times, officers took him into custody and lodged him in the Marinette County Jail.

He’s charged with felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, and drug-related charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
