Ishpeming woman jailed for assault, arson

MUNISING, MI— Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post have arrested an Ishpeming woman for an unreported 2021 assault and arson incident in Alger County.

During the course of an unrelated investigation, detectives learned the 63-year-old male victim was living in Christmas in October of 2021 when he was allegedly assaulted by his wife.

The suspect, 52-year-old Julie Boxley of Ishpeming, is accused of pouring lighter fluid on her husband and lighting him on fire. The flames were quickly extinguished and the man was not injured.

Boxley is charged with 3rd-degree arson and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

She was arraigned June 22nd and remains lodged in the Alger County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
