Suspect leads police on chase through Marquette, Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was arrested Wednesday, following a police chase in Marquette and Marquette Township.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address on Werner Street on a report an individual threatened to kill another person. Other calls were received about a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle driving recklessly.

Around 9:30 p.m., a deputy located the vehicle on South Vandenboom Road near Whetstone Road. A traffic stop was conducted, but the suspect vehicle fled through Whetstone Village. The pursuit continued onto US-41 and other roads in Marquette Township.

The chase ended in a grassy area near Tadych’s Marketplace Foods when the vehicle became disabled.

The suspect was taken into custody and will be charged with multiple offenses. Drugs are suspected to be a contributing factor.

Deputies were assisted by the NMU Police Department, Michigan State Police, Marquette City Police, the Marquette City Fire Department, and Marquette Detailing.

The incident remains under investigation.
