Menominee man charged with armed robbery of Dollar General

Menominee County Sheriff's Office

MENOMINEE, MI— A suspect has been arrested and arraigned in connection with the robbery of the Menominee Dollar General over the weekend.

Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg says Lawrence Meeks, 22, of Menominee is charged with armed robbery and resisting/obstructing a police officer.

Sunday around 3:30 p.m., a Dollar General employee told Menominee City Police that Meeks had stolen merchandise, including frozen meat. When the employee tried to stop him, Meeks brushed past and left the store. Meeks allegedly confronted the employee in the parking lot, stating, “I have a knife and I will cut you, you bastard.”

City Police located Meeks with the help of an employee at the nearby Shell gas station. Meeks fought with officers when they tried to arrest and handcuff him and had to be subdued.

Meeks remains lodged in the Menominee County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A probable cause conference is scheduled for July 25th and a preliminary exam for August 3rd.
