High-speed chase through Sawyer ends in man's arrest on strangulation charge

Marquette County Sheriff's Office

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— A Forsyth Township man is jailed, after he led police on a high-speed chase through Sawyer early Tuesday morning.

Forsyth Township Police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on 55-year-old Robert Allen Jacobson, who was wanted for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder (strangulation). Jacobson took off and tried to elude police by driving through residential areas of Sawyer at speeds of over 80 miles per hour.

He tried to return to his residence, where he was apprehended by police. Two Forsyth Township officers received minor injuries during the incident.

Jacobson was lodged in the Marquette County Jail on the original charge. An additional charge of felony fleeing and eluding will be submitted to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Forsyth Township Police were assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff's Office and Forsyth Township Fire Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
