Man arrested for breaking into Negaunee home, shooting at owner

NEGAUNEE, MI— Two people were arrested Saturday in Negaunee, after a man tried to break into a residence.

City Police received a call just after 3 a.m. that shots were fired inside a house. Officers learned a 35-year-old man had tried to break into the home through a window when the 60-year-old female homeowner noticed him.

The man allegedly shot one round at the homeowner, who returned fire. No one was injured.

The woman locked herself in her bedroom and called 911. When officers arrived, they found the suspect in the basement and arrested him.

A 33-year-old woman who is related to the suspect was also arrested.

City Police were assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Ishpeming City Police Department, and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
