Man arrested for making threats against Dickinson County elementary schools

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain man has been arrested for threatening two Dickinson County schools.

Sunday around 4 p.m., the Iron Mountain Police Department and Kingsford Public Safety Department both received a report of a possible threat from a Michigan State Police tip line. It targeted either Woodland Elementary or North Elementary schools during “Spirit Week.”

Officers determined the suspect, who they thought lived in Kingsford, actually lived in Iron Mountain. Knowing the suspect was in his residence, officers surveilled the house until a search warrant was executed around 10 p.m.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and lodged in the Dickinson County Correctional Facility, pending issuance of charges from the county Prosecutor’s Office.

Assisting in the investigation were the Kingsford Public Safety Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, and Norway Police Department.

No further information will be released until the suspect is arraigned in 95-B District County.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
