Menominee man sentenced to prison for home invasion

Menominee, MI – A Menominee man has been sentenced on home invasion charges relating to a break in earlier this year in Stephenson.

According to the WLUC-TV6 website, 38-year old Michael Bertrand was sentenced to 8-to-40 years in prison as a Habitual Fourth Offender.

Bertrand was convicted of breaking into a Stephenson home last May and stealing property valued at more than $7,000. He was convicted of 2nd-Degree Home Invasion… False Report of a Felony… and Malicious Destruction of Property.

Officers identified court documents with Bertrand’s name on them at the scene and say Bertrand falsely reported and orange Chevrolet Cobalt registered in his name had been stolen.

An accomplice testified against Bertrand at the trial in exchange for a reduced sentence. Bertrand was on active parole for a prior felony conviction at the time of the new incident. He had been released from prison three months prior.
