West Iron County Schools put on lockdown following threat

IRON RIVER, MI— A 15-year-old has been arrested for making a threat against West Iron County Schools.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says the superintendent received a notification from the OK2SAY tip line Wednesday around 8:45 a.m. and passed the information to the school resource officer. The district went into a soft lockdown.

Officials believed the threat was made by a former student.

Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene and conducted an investigation. A 15-year-old suspect was identified, apprehended, and transported to the Iron County Holdover.

The Caspian Police Department assisted in the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
