Felony charges filed against man who assaulted MCSO officers

MARQUETTE, MI— A Negaunee man faces felony charges, after he allegedly assaulted two deputies at the Marquette County Jail Saturday.

Ray Johnson, 38, was being booked on a drunk and disorderly charge around 1 a.m. when he became violent and assaulted the officers who were booking him. One officer suffered a concussion. The other officer had to get stitches on her mouth and face.

Johnson was arraigned Thursday on one count of resisting and obstructing an officer and two counts of resisting-obstructing an officer, causing injury, along with the initial drunk and disorderly charge.

Johnson posted a $25,000 bond. A probable cause conference is scheduled for December 7th and a preliminary exam on January 4th in 96th District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
