MI Capitol evacuated after hoax threat

LANSING, MI (MPRN)— Michigan’s Capitol building was evacuated Wednesday after officials received an emailed bomb threat.

State law enforcement searched the building and determined there was no threat. Capitols in several states were also evacuated over what officials call hoax threats.

Michigan State Capitol Commission Chair William Kandler says threats are not common but building officials have been worried about security at the site.

“We realized that the level of politically related violence around the country has just been growing and growing. And this being an election year, we knew the possibilities of these kinds of things happening.”

Last year the Michigan Capitol banned most possession of firearms inside the building and installed weapon detectors at the entrances.
