DeTour man could spend up to 50 years in prison for having sex with a child

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— An eastern U.P. man has been sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child over a seven-year period.

Ronald Goetz of DeTour Village was convicted by a jury of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He arranged to have an unknown man sexually assault the same child.

At the January 9th sentencing, Chippewa County Circuit Court Judge James Lambros said he’d never seen a more disturbing piece of evidence than one of the videos introduced at trial. He indicated the damage done to the victim was apparent in the video.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
