Accused Chippewa County arsonist charged with setting more fires

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Chippewa County man arrested in November in connection with a structure fire in Paradise now faces charges in two other incidents.

Joseph Halder, 35, joined the Whitefish Township Volunteer Fire Department last summer. He was arrested for arson as he fought the fire at a Paradise gift shop on November 11^th.

Halder was also a suspect in two other fires in the area.

On Wednesday, he was arrested and arraigned in 91^st District Court on two additional arson charges. One charge stems from a structure fire that happened in Paradise on October 5^th of 2023. The second stems from a structure fire which occurred off of M-123 south of Paradise on November 5^th of last year.
