Ishpeming Township man arrested during social media investigation of child sexual predators

MARQUETTE, MI— An Ishpeming Township man has been arrested by Michigan State Police for child sexually abusive activity and other charges.

The MSP Eighth District Hometown Security Team started communicating with a suspect on April 29th of last year during an investigation regarding narcotics and child sexual predators in the U.P. Troopers posed as a minor on an investigative social media account. A 49-year-old Ishpeming Township man allegedly asked to meet for sexual relations in exchange for meth.

The investigation was forwarded to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Bryan Ahtonen was arrested on January 22nd and arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver meth, three counts of using a computer to commit a crime, accosting a minor for immoral purposes, and child sexually abusive activity.

Anyone with information regarding additional victims of the suspect is asked to contact the Michigan State Police, Eighth District Headquarters.

Troopers were assisted by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.
