Fugitive kidnapping suspect arrested by Ishpeming Police

Marquette County Sheriff's Office

ISHPEMING, MI— The Ishpeming Police Department arrested an accused kidnapper who was in hiding last week.

Thursday around 4:30 p.m., officers blocked off the 100 block of North Main Street. They had learned 43-year-old fugitive Jesse Paris of Negaunee was in an apartment building downtown. After a short time, Paris exited the building and was taken into custody.

Paris was wanted for kidnapping an 18-month-old girl. She was found safe in the apartment and put in the custody of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Paris is charged with kidnapping-child enticement. He was also an absconder from parole and had arrest warrants for delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of meth, and a bench warrant out of Marquette County Circuit Court for failure to appear.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Thursday in Marquette County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
