GIANT busts four for meth possession, distribution

BESSEMER, MI— Four people have been arrested by the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team on meth-related charges.

Last month, GIANT began investigating the suspects for distributing meth in Ironwood and Hurley, Wisconsin.

Following several controlled buys, police arrested David Opsahl, 51, Tela Reese, 34, Travis Havens, 34, and Nicole Rivera, 34. Police say Opsahl had half a pound of meth on him when he was taken into custody.

Search warrants uncovered prescription drugs, mushrooms, firearms, money, and other items at Reese’s and Havens’ properties.

Everyone except Rivera is charged with delivery of meth and conspiracy to deliver meth, among other charges. Rivera is charged with possession of meth and possession of meth within 100 feet of a park.

Opsahl is lodged in the Iron County, Wisconsin Jail. The other three are lodged in the Gogebic County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
