Deputies arrest men for trying to have sex with minor in Alger County

ALGER COUNTY, MI— Two men were arrested in Alger County last month for trying to have sex with a minor they met online.

The undercover operation entailed an officer posing as a 15-year-old girl on social media. Manuel Uribe-Mendez, 31, of Grand Rapids and David Derouin, 49, of Marquette allegedly indicated interest in having sex with the girl. They traveled to a predetermined spot in Alger county and were taken into custody.

Derouin was arrested on February 23rd and Uribe-Mendez on February 24th. Both are charged with child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit a crime.

They remain lodged in the Alger County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
