Delta County men arraigned on cocaine charges

ESCANABA, MI— Evidence of drug activity was found at an Escanaba bar, following the arrest of two Delta County men.

James Johnson of Escanaba and Ronald Frans of Gladstone were in a vehicle stopped by Delta County deputies on April 30th. Police found more than 4 ounces of cocaine.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team had been investigating the suspects for several months. Detectives executed a search warrant at the Northtown Crown Da’Bar in Escanaba. It was determined James Johnson worked at the bar and lived in an apartment above the business. A search uncovered cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and illegal prescription medication.

Both suspects were arraigned on charges related to possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

The case remains under investigation.

Detectives were assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 Unit, the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post, Escanaba Public Safety, agents from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Michigan Intelligence Operation Center.
