MSP receives reports that former Ishpeming officer gave several people alcohol

ISHPEMING, MI— Marquette County officials are investigating reports that a former officer with the Ishpeming Police Department offered people alcohol.

Travis Hardwicke was charged with 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct and furnishing alcohol to a minor. At his preliminary exam last week, the charge was amended to 1st-degree CSC, based on the victim’s testimony.

Hardwicke was bound over to Marquette County Circuit Court.

The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office and Michigan State Police continue to investigate the matter. Officials say they’ve spoken to multiple people who have received or were offered alcohol by Hardwicke.

If you or someone you know was involved, please call Detective Sergeant Matt Lequia at 906-475-1131.

If a victim feels more comfortable, Crime Victim Advocate Amanda Wetelainen can be present for any interviews. She can be reached during business hours at 906-458-3928.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
