Marquette man arrested for torturing girlfriend

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette man has been arrested on four felony charges in connection with a domestic violence incident in the city.

Monday around 1:45 p.m., an officer with the Marquette Police Department was dispatched to the UPHS-Marquette Intensive Care Unit regarding a Negaunee woman who was injured as a result of domestic violence. The 20-year-old had been repeatedly assaulted with a dangerous weapon, strangled, and prevented from leaving her boyfriend, Adrian Tello, 23. The assaults occurred over multiple days at Tello’s Marquette residence.

A search warrant was executed Monday at Tello’s residence, where officers found further evidence of the reported crime. Tello was not at home.

On Tuesday, 96th District Court issued a four-count felony arrest warrant for Tello. It includes two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, one count of torture, and one count of unlawful imprisonment.

Tello was arrested Wednesday without incident and lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
