WI man jailed for shooting towards vehicle, walking around with shotgun

ATHELSTANE, WI— An Athelstane, Wisconsin man was taken into custody Sunday, after he fired a handgun into the ground towards a vehicle.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 10:50 a.m. from a person who was one of the passengers in the stopped vehicle on Smiley Road. The caller reported the subject had walked to a nearby residence and was now armed with a shotgun.

Deputies and officers with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded and set up a perimeter at the location. The Marinette Special Response Team, BearCat, and drone team also responded. They observed the subject, still armed with the long gun, walking back and forth in the driveway near the site of the incident.

Using the armored rescue vehicle, members of the SRT made contact with the man and took him into custody without further incident.

Charges of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety will be forwarded to the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office.

Also assisting at the scene were Silver Cliff Rescue and Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area Paramedics.

The incident remains under investigation.
