Marquette Branch Prison officers injured by inmate on Friday

MARQUETTE, MI— Two corrections officers were injured when a prisoner assaulted them at Marquette Branch Prison on Friday.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says a Level-5 prisoner attacked the officers with a homemade weapon as the COs were releasing inmates into the yard. Additional staff responded immediately. They gained control over the prisoner and secured the weapon.

The injured officers were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment and released Friday afternoon.

The Level-5 unit was put under restricted movement.

The incident remains under investigation.
