Iron Mountain Police nab man for possessing large amounts of ammunition

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— An Iron Mountain man has been arrested for illegally being in possession of ammunition.

The Iron Mountain Police Department was notified Monday of social media posts made by a local resident. The footage showed what looked like a backpack containing .22 caliber and 9 mm ammunition, 12-gauge shotgun shells, and magazines loaded with .308 and .223 caliber rifle ammunition.

The subject showed his face in the videos. He was identified as Cory Conn, 41. Police say he is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Conn is also on bond for charges related to carrying a concealed weapon.

The Critical Incident Response Team was activated. C.I.R.T. is a specialized group trained to handle high-risk situations. It’s made up of officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety, the Norway Police Department, and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

A search warrant was executed at Conn’s home. Officials found the ammunition seen in the videos.

Conn was arrested and charged with possession of weapons and/or ammunition by a prohibited person.

In an unrelated matter, Conn was also arraigned on charges relating to pointing a laser light at planes that were landing at Kingsford’s Ford Airport on or around January 16.
