Suspect carrying a gun, ammunition and a knife arrested in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— Marquette Police took a man into custody Sunday for carrying concealed weapons and resisting arrest.

Officers were dispatched around 7:45 a.m. to Picnic Rocks on a report of malicious destruction of property. They learned the suspect had damaged a vehicle and fled the scene. The victim said he’d been approached and aggressively threatened by the suspect at Presque Isle about two weeks ago.

Police located the suspect walking near 7th and Bluff streets around 8:15. When officers approached, the man ran. Police had to use force to restrain the suspect when he resisted arrest.

A search of the man revealed a loaded concealed handgun, firearm magazines loaded with ammunition, and a large knife.

The suspect was arrested for resisting and obstructing police and carrying concealed weapons. Charges are being sought for felonious assault and malicious destruction of personal property.

The man was lodged at the Marquette County Jail. Officials say the motive for the suspect’s actions remains unknown.

The Marquette Police Department is currently investigating similar acts that were perpetrated by the same suspect within the past month, including felonious assault. Those with any additional information should call D/Lt. Archocosky at the Marquette Police Department at (906) 225-8930.
