Don't fall for text scam about unpaid tolls, police say

MARQUETTE, MI— Law enforcement is warning the public about a widespread text scam.

The Marquette Police Department says residents are getting texts allegedly from E-ZPass saying the system has identified an unpaid toll charge linked to their vehicle. The victim is told to click on a link to avoid fees or service disruptions.

Marquette Police say if you haven’t traveled recently, do not fall for the scam. If you have traveled recently and believe you may have unpaid tolls, go to a verified state website to check your status.

Those who have questions regarding if a message, call, or email is a scam can call the Marquette Police Department at 906-228-0400.
