Escanaba Police arrest suspect after high-speed chase near high school

ESCANABA, MI— A suspect was arrested in Escanaba Tuesday after leading police on a chase and possessing drugs.

Around 2:30 p.m., an officer with the Department of Public Safety tried to apprehend a subject on a felony warrant during a traffic stop. The suspect fled at a high rate of speed near Escanaba High School as students were being released. In the interest of public safety, the officer discontinued the pursuit.

A short time later, a concerned citizen reported a suspicious individual walking near a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car. Officers found the suspect and took them into custody without incident.

Upon further investigation, officers found about 11 grams of meth and drug paraphernalia consistent with the sale of narcotics. The suspect was arrested and lodged in the Delta County Jail on multiple charges.

Escanaba Public Safety extends its gratitude to the community members who provided crucial information that led to the suspect’s arrest. Officials say the incident highlights the importance of law enforcement and the public working together to keep the community safe.
