Multiple people nabbed in WI drug trafficking investigation

MARINETTE COUNTY, WI— Ten people have been arrested in Marinette County for being part of a drug trafficking organization.

In February of this year, the Northeast Tri-County Drug Enforcement Group, led by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette Police Department, started investigating a drug trafficking organization operating in the county.

Over several months, investigators were able to identify several individuals involved in the sale and distribution of meth.

Between April 30 and May 2, seven search warrants related to the investigation were executed. Officials seized 413.53 grams of meth, two firearms, THC, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and $3,547 in U.S. currency.

Ten people were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit-delivery of methamphetamine greater than 50 grams. They are Gabriel Kurek, 48, of Peshtigo; Bruce Cassady, 45, of Lena; Johnathan Block, 49, of Pound; John Hager, 33, of Grover; Crystal Barthel, 33, of Antigo; Scott Klatt, 47, of Menominee; Maya Lindsay, 23, of Marinette; Hunter Shehow, 23, of Peshtigo; Maggie Throm, 24, of Menominee; and Nickolas Wood, 27, of Marinette.

Assisting in the investigation were the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Peshtigo Police Department, Dickinson County KIND unit, Antigo Police Department, Marathon County Drug Unit, and Lake Winnebago Area MEG unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
