Troopers board freighter in Soo Locks to arrest CSC suspect

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— An Alpena man was arrested at the Soo Locks Wednesday on a felony warrant for criminal sexual conduct.

Michigan State Police at the Alpena Post initiated an investigation into a 34-year-old subject last year. He was ultimately charged with eight counts of CSC.

MSP had information the man was employed on board the freighter Kaye E. Barker. When the ship went through the Soo Locks Wednesday, troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post and the Seventh District Fugitive Team coordinated with the captain and locks staff. As the boat tied up, troopers boarded the freighter and arrested the suspect.

The unidentified man was taken to Alpena and lodged in the county jail.
