Wisconsin car theft suspect arrested in Calumet Township

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI— A Wisconsin man is jailed in Houghton County for stealing a vehicle.

Sheriff’s deputies were notified Monday around 12:35 p.m. that someone tried to steal two separate vehicles from the Circle K gas station in Calumet Township. The suspect fled before police arrived.

On Monday afternoon, a Ford pickup was reported stolen from Calumet Township. Deputies found the vehicle and the suspect around 10 a.m. Tuesday when they conducted a traffic stop in Florida Location. They had received a tip from a local off-duty officer about the location of the truck.

The suspect is lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Laurium Village Police Department, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office and Superior Service Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
