Person who makes false police report in Menominee arrested

MENOMINEE, MI— An individual was arrested Sunday in Menominee for making a false police report.

At about 5 p.m. the Menominee City Police Department was dispatched to the city’s Welcome Center for a reported armed robbery. The reporting party claimed a suspect dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask had held them at gunpoint. The person says the suspect stole cash and other personal belongings.

A coordinated response, investigation and search were immediately initiated. After further questioning, the individual admitted that the robbery had been fabricated and no such incident had occurred. The subject was taken into custody and arrested for filing a false police report.

The Menominee Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Marinette Police Department, and Menominee County 911.

Menominee Police remind the public that making a false report not only wastes valuable law enforcement resources but also undermines public safety efforts. They say such actions will be taken seriously.
