Woman stabbed in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI— A suspect is in custody in a stabbing incident in Escanaba.

Monday around 7:30 a.m., Public Safety officers were dispatched to Fairview Estates, Lot #107 on a report of a stabbing in progress. As officers headed to the scene, they were advised the suspect fled in a blue SUV.

Police found the victim at a neighbor’s residence. She had suffered numerous stab wounds and was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The victim remains in stable condition.

While officers were at the scene, Central Dispatch reported the suspect had gone to the Escanaba Department of Public Safety to turn herself in. She was questioned and later taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is currently in custody.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
