Escanaba residents warned of potential zoning permit-related scam

ESCANABA, MI— Escanaba officials are investigating a possible scam.

The City has received reports of a scam targeting individuals who have applied for zoning permits requiring review by the Planning Commission or Zoning Board of Appeals.

Someone is sending fake invoices by email telling residents to pay them via wire transfer. The fraudulent invoices use the City’s official logos and claim to come from the Clerk’s Office.

Anyone who receives any invoice or communication they’re unsure about should contact the Planning Department immediately at 906-789-7302 or the Escanaba Public Safety Department at 906-786-5911.
