UPDATE, 8/28/25: preliminary investigation indicates that a physical assault between the deceased man and his domestic partner occurred at the residence prior to the shooting. The man then assaulted another member of the home with a knife and was shot. The shooting appears to be self-defense.
MSP Marquette Crime Lab responded and assisted with processing the scene for evidence. A MSP Crime Victim Advocate from the Iron Mountain Post has been made available to help support those involved.
MSP troopers and detectives are continuing to work to ensure the investigation is thorough and complete. The incident will be submitted for review by Menominee County Prosecutor once the investigation is finalized.
The names of the subjects involved are not being released out of respect for the families’ privacy.

HARRIS TOWNSHIP, MI— A 34-year-old man was shot to death early Thursday morning in Menominee County.
Around 12:19 a.m., Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain post responded to a 911 call. The person reported a shooting at a residence on County Road 551 in Harris Township.
When troopers arrived, they found a Wilson man had been shot. They and EMS personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is under active investigation. Troopers say further details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
MSP was assisted by Hannahville Tribal Police, the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, and Rampart EMS.
