Driver hits Super One employee in Marquette, leads deputy on chase

MARQUETTE, MI— A driver was apprehended in Marquette Saturday, following a hit-and-run and subsequent chase.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 11:18 a.m. to the Super One Foods parking lot, where an employee was hit. The suspect vehicle fled the scene but was later located by a deputy and stopped at Discount Tire. The deputy apparently smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle.

When the officer asked the male driver to get out of the vehicle, the suspect drove off. The car traveled westbound on US-41 and hit the cement center of the roundabout at Brickyard Road, which caused a driver’s side tire to deflate.

The driver continued onto Midway Drive and up County Road 510 as the vehicle fell apart. It came to a stop on White Bear Drive and the driver tried to flee on foot. A good Samaritan helped the deputy stop the suspect.

The driver was assessed by EMS at the scene. The Super One employee and deputy were taken to UPHS-Marquette for evaluation.

The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated, fleeing and eluding, and two counts of resisting and obstructing. Charges are also being sought for leaving the scene of an injury crash.

Assisting in the incident were the Michigan State Police, UPHS EMS and Anttila’s Towing.
