Convicted felon arrested with firearms in Alger County

ALGER COUNTY, MI— A 27-year-old Alger County man has been arrested for being a convict in possession of firearms.

The arrest came after a six-month investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and UPSET.

Agents determined the suspect was a convicted felon and evidence posted on social media identified him shooting several different firearms. Convicted felons are prohibited from possessing or using firearms.

Due to the potential danger towards law enforcement, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was used to execute a search warrant and take the suspect into custody. He was arrested without incident.

A search of the residence uncovered 12 rifles and one pistol. The suspect also had multiple semi-automatic firearms with large capacity “drum type” magazines.

The suspect remains lodged in the Alger County Jail.

UPSET was also assisted by troopers from the MSP Traffic Safety Team, the MSP K-9 Unit, and the MSP Aviation Unit.
