Driver arrested after leading police on 50-mile chase through UP, WI counties

IRONWOOD, MI— A Superior, Wisconsin man is jailed following a 50-mile police chase in the western U.P. and eastern Wisconsin Thursday.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a stolen vehicle linked to Robert Ganz-Brown, 30, when they saw his vehicle near the Ironwood Walmart around 11 p.m.

Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but Ganz-Brown took off, leading police through Ironwood, Iron County, Wisconsin, and back to Ironwood. Law enforcement deployed stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Despite his efforts to flee on foot, Ganz-Brown was apprehended through the use of a Taser.

He was lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond on the following charges:

  • 4 counts of 3rd-degree fleeing a police officer
  • 2 counts of throwing objects at vehicles
  • Receiving and concealing a motor vehicle
  • 4 counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer
  • Reckless driving

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has provided an extraditable warrant with no bond/bail.

Assisting in the incident were the Ironwood Public Safety Department, Michigan State Police, Iron County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office, Hurley Police Department, and Beacon Ambulance.

Other charges may be pending in Wisconsin.
