DeTour man arrested on multiple CSC charges

Michigan State Police

Chippewa County, MI - The Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste. Marie Post is announcing the arrest and arraignment of a DeTour Village man on criminal sexual conduct charges involving children.
Troopers say 75-year-old Gerard Malkowski was arrested last Wednesday following multiple investigations. He was arraigned Friday in 91st District Court on
4-counts of criminal sexual conduct-first degree and 1-count of felon in possession of a firearm. He is currently being held in the Chippewa County jail on a $1-million bond.
In April of 2025, the troopers received a tip from a tipline regarding potential criminal sexual activity. Information was provided to MSP alleging that Malkowski engaged in sexually abusive activity involving a child dating back to 2009. The investigation led to similar allegations from another subject against Malkowski dating back to 2005. It was alleged that Malkowski would initially attempt to make juveniles feel comfortable around him by providing them with things such as alcohol, marijuana, and cigarettes, followed by the alleged abuse. Troopers subsequently completed a search warrant on Malkowski’s residence. Digital evidence and a firearm were seized.
Malkowski faces a preliminary examination on November 20th.
MSP troopers and detectives believe there may be additional victims, witnesses, or others with information related to the cases. Anyone with information is asked to contact the MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post at 906-632-2217 or reach out to their local MSP Post
