Drummond Island man jailed for view child sexually abusive material online

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Chippewa County man has been arrested by Michigan State Police in connection with child sexually abusive activity.

Jacob Bergum, 34, of Drummond Island was arrested following an investigation by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Officials learned Bergum was viewing files of child sexually abusive material on the internet.A search of his electronic device resulted in digital evidence being seized.

He’s charged with five counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. Bergum was also charged with being a habitual offender-4th offense, which may increase his penalties, if he’s convicted.

Bergum was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.

He is next due in court on December 1.
