SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit has arrested a Chippewa County man for child sexually abusive activity.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force initiated an investigation into the online activity of Jerred McCoy, 28, of Brimley. Officials say he viewed child sexually abusive material online while at his Brimley residence.
A search of his home resulted in the seizure of digital evidence and the issuance of charges by the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office.
McCoy was arrested by U.S. Marshals in West Virginia and extradited to Michigan. He’s charged with two counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, seven counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and eight counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
McCoy remains lodged in the Chippewa County Correctional Facility on a $250,000 bond. His next court date is January 12.
McCoy faces up to 25 years in prison for child sexually abusive activity – aggravated, and up to 20 years in prison for using a computer to commit a crime.
The MSP Computer Crimes Unit was assisted by the MSP Seventh District Fugitive Team, the US Marshals Service, and the US Attorney General’s Office.
