Wisconsin man accused of stealing several vehicles arrested in Marinette

MARINETTE, WI— A Wausaukee, Wisconsin man was arrested in Marinette earlier this month for stealing a car.

On December 5, the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint of a vehicle theft. The complainant said a man identified as James Nys had taken his Dodge truck for a test drive and failed to return. Police discovered Nys had stolen another vehicle in the same manner in Delta County.

On December 10, Nys was arrested by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and City of Marinette Police Department on a probation warrant in relation to vehicle thefts. He had recently been released from prison for previous theft convictions.

Nys is charged in Kewaunee County with operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, sentence of a repeater, and habitual criminality.

The incident remains under investigation to determine if any additional offenses may have been committed by Nys in other jurisdictions.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
