ESCANABA, MI— The Sheriff's Office has been made aware of a scam requesting the public to return cell phones that were purchased due to an error.
The public is asked to call back when returning the cell phone for further instructions and offered financial compensation for the inconvenience. If you receive a similar request, please contact your cell phone provider for confirmation.
Watch out for:
- Messages claiming a problem with your Christmas order or delivery
- Fake shipping notifications asking you to confirm information
- Links requesting payment, account login or personal details
