SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI— A Schoolcraft County man has been arrested by the Michigan State Police for transporting drugs from Lansing to the central U.P.
Over the past several months, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team has been investigating Jon Zentner, 33, who has been known to traffic narcotics. Detectives received credible information that Zentner was traveling back to the U.P. from downstate, and on January 18, troopers conducted a traffic stop. They say an object was thrown from the vehicle. It was later determined to be a meth pipe.
During the stop, an MSP K-9 unit alerted to the vehicle. A search uncovered 2 ounces of crystal meth in the engine, drug paraphernalia, and electronic evidence.
Zentner was lodged at the Schoolcraft County Jail on charges relating to the distribution of crystal meth.
A passenger in the vehicle was arrested for an outstanding warrant and lodged in the Delta County Jail. Additional charges will be sought for destruction of evidence.
UPSET was assisted by the MSP Traffic Safety Team, troopers from the MSP Manistique Outpost, a K-9 Unit from MSP Gladstone Post, and the Michigan Intelligence Operation Center.
